Accessibility at the Ontario Cannabis Store (OCS)

Communication

We take initiative to communicate with individuals with disabilities in ways that account for their disability while remaining accommodating and respectful.

Notice of temporary disruption of service

In the event of a planned or unexpected disruption to our services, we will promptly notify customers. The notice will be posted on our website and will include information about the reason for the disruption, its anticipated duration and a description of alternative services if available.

  • We recognize that there is a barrier to service from some of our customers who cannot access a Canada Post outlet and live outside of the service area of our Same Day/Next Day service. We apologize for this inconvenience during this challenging time and we will continue to provide service updates as they become available.

Our commitment to accessibility

At the OCS we are committed to meeting the accessibility needs of people with disabilities in a manner that is consistent with the principles of independence, dignity, integration and equal opportunity.

We are committed to meeting accessibility requirements set out in the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA), by providing an inclusive, accessible and barrier-free experience for people with disabilities across the following Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation (IASR):

  • Customer Service
  • Information and communication

We are committed to ensuring that our public spaces are designed to be accessible and provide barrier-free access for people with disabilities. We incorporate accessibility criteria in the design and procurement of our goods, services and facilities.

Customer service
We are committed to delivering an accessible, welcoming and inclusive customer experience. As part of our commitment to accessibility and our customers with disabilities, all OCS employees and individuals who provide goods, services or facilities on our behalf participate in customer service training specific to the IASRs of the AODA and the Ontario Human Rights Code.

Service animals and support persons
At all OCS locations we welcome people with disabilities who are accompanied by a service animal or support person.

Use of assistive devices
People with disabilities may use their personal assistive devices when accessing our goods and services and our facilities.

Alternate formats
An accessible or alternate format for a document is a method of arranging information in a specific format in order to remove potential barriers to accessing and understanding information.

We are committed to providing accessible information and communication to our customers and we recognize that people with disabilities may use methods other than standard print to access information. Some methods that we offer include audio format, large text, accessible PDF and Braille.

While we strive to provide an accessible experience wherever possible, there are exceptions under the Information and Communication Standard that do not apply to:

  • Products and product labels;
  • Unconvertible information or communications; and
  • Information that the OCS does not control either directly or indirectly through a contractual relationship.
