What is  Mango Haze?

To answer this question and more, we turned to the experts at Color Cannabis, grown by WeedMD.

This popular sativa-dominant strain has a strong mango aroma and a balance of THC and CBD.

History

Mango Haze is a cross between Northern Lights #5 (25%), Skunk (25%) and Haze (50%). It is a parallel strain to Super Silver Haze — the cultivars share the same Haze father, and Mango Haze’s mother is actually a sister of Super Silver Haze.

Characteristics

When you open a jar of Mango Haze, you’re instantly met with its lush scent of ripe mango. Its namesake aroma is thanks to the dominant terpenes p-cymene, myrcene, pinene and beta-caryophyllene, which are stored in the strain’s resinous dark green buds. Mango Haze is a balanced sativa-dominant strain, with nearly equal amounts of THC and CBD.

Growing Mango Haze

Growing

For Color Cannabis, Mango Haze was a perfect choice, adding a bit of balance to its lineup of higher-THC strains. It’s easy to grow — although it gets a bit bushy if you don’t keep an eye on it. This plant loves to be topped. Topping is the process of cutting off the top of the plant to encourage lateral growth, which creates a sea of green when you look out over the crop, its large leaves thirstily soaking up the sun.

Mango Haze has a low stretch rate, meaning it doesn’t grow very tall during the flowering stage and will produce large flowers anywhere, even on the lower branches, which typically see smaller bud growth. The flowering time is usually between eight and nine weeks.

This strain can grow well outdoors and finishes in late October. But WeedMD uses a more customized set-up: “Our products are grown in southern Ontario, using state-of-the-art greenhouse rooms with strain-specific nutrient and water regimes to ensure the purity of each plant. Cannabis flowers are harvested with care and dried naturally for optimal flavour and freshness.”

What is a strain?

To help you understand what a cannabis strain is, you can think of it like a breed of dog. While all dogs share similar traits, there are definitely differences among breeds (you wouldn’t confuse a Great Dane with a dachshund, for example). When it comes to different cannabis strains, this means one may have a sweet, lemony aroma, while another may boast a pungent, sour diesel-like scent. These differences have been fine-tuned by cannabis growers over many generations. Growers will choose two plants with desirable traits (for example, a strong diesel scent) and cross (or breed) those plants together, creating an offspring with a stronger expression of those desirable traits. When breeding cannabis plants, growers are often focused on the unique aroma, and taste, and potential THC and CBD content of a strain. And just like no two Great Danes are the same, strains can vary from lot to lot and grower to grower.

Will I like  Mango Haze?

Color Cannabis says it best: “Mango Haze is for people looking to experience the flavour and cannabinoid profile that is terpene-forward and balanced.”
