Ontario Cannabis Store Issues Product Call For New Product Categories

June 10, 2019 (TORONTO) – The Ontario Cannabis Store has issued a call for new cannabis product categories including edibles, beverages, topicals, and extracts. Once Health Canada has authorized the production and sale of these new products, expected in the second half of 2019, the OCS will make them available through OCS.ca and to authorized private retail stores across Ontario. 

Licensed producers are invited to identify their ability to supply new cannabis products, such as cannabis extracts, cannabis beverages, cannabis edibles, cannabis topicals as well as additional dried cannabis flower, pre-rolls, capsules, oils, seeds, and cannabis accessories across several product categories.

“This product call marks an important milestone in securing a broad variety of cannabis products that meet the preferences of Ontario consumers,” said Patrick Ford, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Ontario Cannabis Store. “We are committed to working towards eliminating the illegal market by diversifying our legal and tested product selection and offering customers the products they are excited about.”

Suppliers may respond to the product call through DoingBusinesswithOCS.ca until June 28. The product call forms the initial stage of the OCS’s regular, open and competitive procurement process. While the OCS anticipates it will take producers some time to develop and produce these new products and receive the necessary licensing amendments from Health Canada, this product call is expected to kick-start the rollout of these important products in Ontario.

The OCS is focused on providing safe and responsible access to recreational cannabis through its online retail store and operating the wholesale distribution network for legal private stores in Ontario.
