History of Blue Dream
Blue Dream’s parent strain, Blueberry, was bred by Oregon resident DJ Short. His favourite strains were pungent sativas grown in tropical outdoor environments, and it’s said that he stumbled upon Blueberry while trying to replicate and stabilize these genes. The sweet flavours and purplish-blue buds turned heads and quickly gained popularity.
Now you can find Blue family genetics in many popular strains. If a strain name contains the words “berry” or “blue,” there’s a good chance its lineage connects to this strain. In the 2000s, DJ Short collaborated with his son to cross Blueberry with Silver Haze, in a combination they called Azure Haze, now popularly known as Blue Dream.

Growing Blue Dream
Overall, Blue Dream is a low-maintenance, high-yield strain. While it is beginner-friendly, it’s best suited to home growers who have the capacity to house large plants that thrive in hot, humid conditions. Set yourself up for success with a trellis or metal stalks to support your plants and protect them from toppling under their own weight. Unsurprisingly, with the high temperatures and fast growth, this plant needs a lot of water and nutrients to thrive.
Climate: You’ll want to start seedlings around 24°C with a humidity between 30% and 50%. Gradually increase the humidity a few weeks into the grow process to around 55%. Once the plants begin to flower, raise the temperature to around 28°C and gradually lower the humidity by a few percent every week until you reach 30% to 40%.
Height and growing time: Blue Dream is known for its impressive height — it can reach two to four metres. To keep the plants manageable indoors, you’ll need to introduce a topping regime into your grow. Topping is the process of pruning the tops of your plants to help divert energy to the lower buds. Not only does this manage height, but it helps strengthen plant structure and reduce mould and pests.
Yield: A well-maintained Blue Dream plant can yield around 400 to 600 grams per square metre when grown indoors. When properly grown outdoors, it can produce even higher yields ranging from 600 to 2,000 grams per plant.

Blue Cookies: Blue Cookies, a.k.a. Blue GSC, is an indica-dominant hybrid strain that merges Blueberry with the famous indica-dominant GSC strain. This combination brings forward the earthy, cherry flavours of GSC and a high THC potential.
Blue Widow: Created by crossing Blueberry with hybrid White Widow, hybrid Blue Widow inherits a strong, sweet aroma that might deliver sour notes of citrus and pine.
