Earlier work in the cannabis industry took Huff‑Bogart into hundreds of cannabis dispensaries both before and since legalization, and she has lived in the Muskoka region for more than 15 years, where she is heavily involved in the community. Blending the things she loved about other shops, plus her own familiarity with cannabis and local culture, led her to a unique concept: What if the store looked like a flower shop?

“I didn’t want to have a general iPad store, like what everyone was coming out with,” Huff-Bogart says, referring to tech-forward storefronts. “If we look at cannabis, the buds are your flowers, so I was taking a little bit of a play off that — hence the name, the Green Bouquet Cannabis.”

Located in a small strip mall between a neighbourhood thrift shop and a Home Hardware in Port Sydney, Ont., The Green Bouquet Cannabis opened its doors in 2021.

Although small, the independent shop has personal touches that make it fit right in with Muskoka cottage country. Huff-Bogart says her husband did all the woodwork — from the custom oak counter to the live edge wood shelves and vault — using materials sourced from a logger five minutes away.

Even the wares on the shelves have a charming quality to them. The store carries a number of accessories, including whimsical bongs and playful pipes. Many of the pieces draw inspiration from head shop culture, while others might appeal to those who enjoy knick-knacks or functional home decor.

The shop’s inspired design has had the intended effect. “I get told all the time that my store doesn’t look like any other store they’ve gone into,” Huff-Bogart says. “That’s such a compliment to me, because I just wanted it to feel very welcoming, like a cottage, and have people be comfortable.”

Owner, The Green Bouquet Cannabis

Huff-Bogart is a Level 2 cannabis sommelier, meaning she has spent a lot of time learning about cannabis. She educated her budtenders about how plant lineage, terpenes and minor cannabinoids can all influence the consumption experience. She is particularly interested in exploring cannabis beyond THC, diving into other properties and effects besides potency.

She’s brought that know-how to the store, making sure her all-female staff — a manager and two employees — can answer customers with care and attention to detail no matter how specific or niche the questions may be. “We have some customers that come in that want organic, or they want just sun-grown. A few customers that tell us hydroponics give them migraines, so they only want weed that's grown in soil,” Huff-Bogart says. Continuous learning through connecting with Licensed Producers, reading, compiling product spreadsheets and writing blog posts help the staff build stronger knowledge and customer relationships.

SHOP OUTDOOR-GROWN PRODUCTS

Ensuring customers’ comfort is essential. The store caters to a lot of older locals, including veteran cannabis consumers who know exactly what they want; adventurous people who want to try the latest products and novices coming in with a variety of wellness concerns who need a lot of support and information. In all cases, the community depends on the staff to make effective recommendations and provide as much detail as possible about the products in stock. That’s no small feat, with 350 to 450 individual items (with about half being craft products) in the store at any given moment.

In both 2023 and 2025, The Green Bouquet Cannabis won the local chamber of commerce’s business of the year award. Huff-Bogart attributes that success to product knowledge, “and the fact that the ladies will take the time to really explain everything to [customers] and get down to all the nitty-gritty about what the cannabis plant is offering.”

“And we open doors and close doors for people, too. That's a big one,” she laughs.
