Opening the store in March 2022, the team behind Ashario Finch was inspired to create a destination that places wellness at its core. That focus is reflected in its carefully crafted interior design, enhanced with calming music and a pleasant scent that creates a relaxing shopping atmosphere. The location, in a bustling area in north Toronto close to chiropractor clinics, health food stores and various gyms, means many customers walking through Ashario Finch’s doors have an interest in natural and mindful living.

AJ says he has noticed that the main difference between the wellness shopper and most other cannabis consumers is that they’re not seeking out intoxicating high-THC products. Many of these customers include athletes and seniors.

“Our wellness shoppers are generally more educated [about cannabis], careful and particular about the formulas of edibles, beverages, oils and capsules they consume,” he says. AJ adds that they understand that there are so other features, other than high THC, to the products and brands the store stocks.

“With Finch, our mission was to bring a wellness-first cannabis experience to the community, offering premium CBD products in a clean space designed to promote relaxation and trust,” AJ says. “The Finch store was always about more than just selling cannabis — it’s about helping our customers integrate wellness into their everyday lives.

In recent years, CBD, a non-intoxicating cannabinoid found in cannabis, has made its way into the mainstream — being incorporated into skincare, bath bombs and even pillows — and routinely name-dropped by wellness influencers across social media.

CBD is the second-most abundant cannabinoid in the cannabis plant (besides THC) and is integrated into many product formats, including edibles, like gummies and cannabis-infused beverages; extracts, such as capsules and oils; and cannabis-infused topicals, including lotions and creams. Consumers north of the city will soon get their chance to see what Ashario has to offer. The team is gearing up for the opening of a fourth location, Ashario Thornton, at 239 Barrie St., Thornton, Ont., conveniently situated near Highway 400.
