Although vaporizers for dried flower have been available for some time, now Ontarians can now purchase vapes and vape accessories. Vapes come in a number of shapes and sizes but are basically made up of a mouthpiece, tank or reservoir, heating element and battery. Besides the basic device, OCS.ca and Authorized Cannabis Stores offer many complementary accessories. Here’s a rundown of what’s available.

Types of vapes

Vapes can be handheld or pen-shaped and may be disposable or the refillable type, which are meant to be used with cartridges pre-filled with cannabis extracts (or concentrates). There are also vaporizers specifically designed for vaporizing dried flower or small amounts of extracts by using the provided insert.

Some handheld vapes are adjustable, allowing you to select your desired temperature, and often come in kits that include cleaning tools, rechargeable batteries and a charger. Some even come with an app that allow you to update the firmware and add security to the device. Double-check the details before purchasing to see what’s included.

Pre-filled cartridges

Vape battery units (either 510-thread or closed loop) can be reused by attaching a new cartridge onto the battery. One important factor to consider when shopping for cartridges is to be aware of the type of battery it requires. Most batteries are labelled 510-thread, which means they have a special insert that is compatible with a 510-thread cartridge. However, some vape cartridges can only be used with batteries specific to the brand, so double check which type you have before purchasing.

Disposable vape pens are not refillable and are not meant to be separated from their battery. All vape pens sold through OCS.ca and Authorized Cannabis Stores use pre-filled cartridges (no refillable cartridges are available).

Cleaning kits

More expensive handheld vaporizers (some of which are designed for extract use), as well as vaporizers for dried flower, must be cleaned regularly in order to work properly.
